The scanner seems to work very well. However, the software is a bit wonky and clunky, which is what I would expect from Epson on a Mac. In fact, their main installer didn't work at all in High Sierra, so I had to download separate programs. The good news is that you don't need their software at all. Basic scanner functionality can be accessed through the Mac's built-in software, including preview and image capture, and it's a lot easier. I'll probably completely ignore their software and it would be better if you didn't even install it. Just go to Printers & Scanners in your Mac System Preferences and make sure the scanner shows up there once it's connected.
