Review on ๐Ÿšฒ Giro Carbide R Men's Cycling Shoes: Optimal Performance and Comfort for Every Ride by Original Mansel

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Well made, looks and feels solid, too tight.

This size 48 should be a size 13.5 when converted to US sizing. I wear 13 and they were still too short and very tight. Unfortunately I didn't realize it until my feet were swollen from my first ride as they were covered in mud and worn out so I couldn't get them back (my fault). I got my specific size (48) for about half the price other sizes listed at least on Revain. I've noticed that Giro shoes tend to be very narrow even though they're listed as a regular width. I doubt ordering even a full size would have given me enough width. The sides of the balls of my feet protruded at least 1/2 inch beyond the sole on either side, and my big toes rubbed painfully against the hard toe pads. The lugs sit deep enough that I had to use spacers to secure my pedals and give them a little float. Even though the spikes are deep in the tread, they still scrape the ground when walking. I have several other brands of mountain bike shoes that don't have this problem. I think it has to do with the shape of the pad and the tread that's heavily curved in the forefoot. They are well made and appear to be very durable. The tread is thick and knobby and offers good traction on muddy hills. The soles are good and stiff for good power transfer. This is definitely an XC racing style shoe. I sold them at a significant loss and switched to a Pearl Izumi hiking boot which I am very happy with.
