Review on Forney 48571 Super Sil-Flo 1/8-Inch Brazing Rod, 1/2-Pound by John Miranda

Does not replace Sil Fos 15.

If you attempt to use this to solder a tubing kit to a capacitor bank, prepare for unnecessary hard work and frustration. It works, but it takes a lot of heat and patience to melt that filler metal to make it flow. If you have experience with Sil Fos 15, you know that this is not a good replacement. Pay a little more and get Sil Fos 15. This will make your job a lot easier and get it right the first time. The silver content of 15% is of great importance for capillary action. For those looking to save some money I see this being used in more accessible areas. Definitely not recommended for use in tight spaces such as B. on condenser valves. Pros: When properly soldered with this filler, it feels stronger and more durable than Sil Fos 15. Cons: Very difficult to work with, requires a lot of patience and good equipment. Don't even think about using this with a Bernzomatic oxy-map burner. I learned it the hard way.

Pros
  • Self Flux on Copper
Cons
  • Some Minor Stuff
