It's a long piece of semi-rigid stranded wire with a plastic ring on one end and a fishing sinker tip on the other end. The tip is marked *millimeter*, NOT hot-cold or min-max. You then need to look at the charts provided, find out which one applies to your vehicle and read it accordingly. a non-standard shank that goes all the way but hits the bottom when the cap touches the tube. Push it too far and you'll drop the pan, just like me. Overall, this is a good tool if you really despise the expense and inconvenience of going to a dealership for the simple things that every car owner should be able to do. But if you're a modern car owner who changes the oil at Jiffy Lube every 3,000 miles and drives through the Suds Tunnel every month or so, this probably isn't for you.
