I am a homeowner and DIY enthusiast. I was between this tool and a pneumatic nailer with a small compressor. My basement is already pretty full so I figured the last thing I needed in there was another bulky item (compressor) and hoses to wrap around etc. Carrying a 20-30 lb compressor up and down the stairs or this 5 pound tool also influenced my decision. Noise was also taken into account. God I made the right choice! I fell in love with this tool after making the first "nail". Very quiet compared to a pneumatic nailer and surprisingly easy to get into small corners and gaps. And no tank to carry around or hoses to roll up! I couldn't be happier with this tool. Although 18 gauge is relatively small, for the projects I need to complete (cutting, making plywood boxes and shelves, etc.), it's more than just a job. The cost of the tool will be higher if I invest in other calibers in the future, but the portability of this thing more than makes up for it in my opinion. Once my basement is cleaner I can always get myself an air compressor - mainly to deflate working parts and inflate tires on my car - but in my opinion this tool was worth every penny spent. The build quality seems really good and I found it very easy to use. My only two issues are that the depth gauge readout is very difficult to read (black on black) and the extra nose pads that Dewalt supplies are easy to knock out of their built in storage spaces. Be careful or you will lose them quickly! I should also note that I bought the 5Ah battery at the suggestion of another reviewer who mentioned that it balances the tool better in the hand than the smaller 2Ah battery that comes with the kit. I thought that was right. FWIW, I bought a cheaper aftermarket battery which is 30% the price of a Dewalt brand battery as I was mainly using it for balance. However, it seems to be working great. As a newbie to heavy duty nailers I am very happy with this gauge and tool. Indeed very impressed.
