Review on Logitech M585 Wireless Mouse – Seamless Control and File Management Between 2 Windows and Apple Mac Devices via Bluetooth or USB, 2-Year Battery Life, Graphite by Philip Brianne

The only Logitech Bluetooth mouse that makes sense but looks and feels subpar

I bought this mouse because I finally gave up on the more expensive Logitech MX Anywhere 2 Bluetooth mouse I bought earlier this year have. Overall this mouse was excellent with the exception of one issue: the rechargeable battery. A rechargeable battery sounds like a great idea, but is it? Not if it only lasts a month or a few weeks and then - without warning - dies and needs to be recharged. This means you have an extra "spare" mouse on hand when you need to get right back to work. It helps to remember to turn your mouse off every time you leave your computer and turn it back on when you return, but do you want to do that? Compare this experience to the M585. The battery in this Bluetooth mouse lasts two full years. That's great - I expect to have to spend about 50 cents on a new one sometime in 2010. My MX Anywhere pain is over! Unfortunately, what's not great is the overall build quality and ergonomics of this mouse. It's thinner and less comfortable than the MX or any of the other four recent Logitech mice I own. On the positive side it's working so far, tracking seems good and it connects easily to my MacBook Pro via bluetooth. It works with Bluetooth or a receiver dongle, just like the MX, and being able to use it with two different computers may be useful for some. Why can't Logitech make a Bluetooth mouse with the quality of their best offerings that lasts a year or two on a battery or two? Who knows. In the meantime, I'll keep using this less than perfect mouse until it dies, until I design a carpel tunnel due to its poor ergonomics, or until Logitech finally makes a better quality mouse that won't fail in the medium term.
