I used this engine mounting tool to position my 1998 1998 12v Cummins engine to adjust the valve clearance. After reading other reviews I made sure the tool and plastic case were "oiled" before use. I just lubricated them with WD-40. As for the fit of the tool, with a few light presses it fitted perfectly and didn't have any play in any direction. The teeth seemed to fit/hook very well and did the job. I was able to crank the engine with no problem and do all the valve clearance work in half an hour (since I'm pretty meticulous I just installed a new cam). Upon completion I checked the tool for imperfections, the only thing I noticed was that some of the coating was peeling off the tool where the teeth meshed. No problem, I could see that it's too long for many, many uses. If you're not sure which tool to buy, I definitely recommend this one. Cheaper items risk being short-lived, and more expensive items carry your popular brand markup. Ares has a very good customer service team who will even contact you to thank you for your purchase and see how their tools have worked for you. Overall a great experience. If I remember, I will add a picture of the tool after using it in the future
