I've read reports of nuts getting stuck and ruining the bolt but I figured they just didn't know what they were doing I went out and bought it this. Not correct. I've turned nuts almost every day for the past 50 years and I've never heard of a bolt that required instructions, I've never oiled a bolt before running a nut, and I've never left a thread on a new mother frayed. Bolt. There's probably a first time for everything. Yes there is a guide for this screw and it says to lubricate the threads before use. But who reads all this blah blah blah for BOLT? I'm not sure I even looked at the back of the box. This is a bolt. You put nuts on it and tighten them. Do you know why you need to grease the threads on those U-bolts? Look closely at the threads on the bolt and look inside the nuts. You will see that the threads on the bolt are very rough and you will see that the threads on some of the nuts have small chips left over from the threads. If you didn't get any of these nuts, then you probably haven't encountered a problem. But if you have such a nut and have not applied any lubricant, then the small piece of shavings got caught in the rough thread and smeared, or maybe tiny pieces of thread broke off, which then also got into the thread. threads, and before long you'll have a tangled mess. I think the reason people keep turning after they feel resistance is because you expect the resistance to increase as you start threading the plastic part of the nut onto the bolt. it happened to me I tightened the nut and felt increased resistance after a few turns. I kept shooting until it was clearly not plastic, then remembering all the bad reviews and removed the nut. It's too late, the thing is already packed. I went back, read the reviews, then dug the package out of the trash and sure enough, it says smear. Well, I took it a step further: I took a stainless steel washcloth and polished the threads on the bolt. (Just wrap some cotton around the threads and turn the screw back and forth for a while.) This made a big difference, although the threads are still a bit rough. But I also applied some lube and screwed the nuts onto the second U-bolt which I bought with no problems. Unfortunately, I'm now missing a U-bolt before I can use my trailer again. I can buy a 7/16-14 die for less than one of these bolts. Maybe I should do that and fix the one I have. Just take a look. Lubricate the bolt before installing the nut. What were they thinking? Oh, maybe the answer is in the question.
