I've tried this on some M6 threads in 6061 aluminum with the 2D -> Thread option in Fusion 360. Turning at 4500 rpm, feed rate 320 mm /min, two passes at 0.15 mm pitch, thread pitch 1 mm, thread diameter offset 1 mm. Important: Select "Center to Center" in the linking options! Cut a large thread with the right fit. You can adjust the fit with more/less headroom in the Fusion if you like. The first time he inserted the cutter into the bottom of the hole my heart was in my throat, but he "gap is gap" and made a great carve on the first try!
