This is an updated review as I only received the product last night. I have a 20 gallon tank and was disappointed with how quickly algae grew on my "fake" plants in the tank. I have an algae eater but it can't reach all the leaves due to their shape and size. With a phosphate test kit in my tank, I decided to test the aquarium. Highest quality dark blue. I have never seen such deep blue test water and in the summer I have problems with the pool due to the trees overhead and the Florida climate. In my aquarium water there were even more phosphates than in the tank. So I bought this product after seeing a video using it. I have an AquaClear 30 filter that uses Foam, Purigen and Biomedia steps. I took out the biomedium bag, placed it under the inlet and replaced it with the same size bag filled with PhosGuard. It was about half the 250ml can I bought here. I applied it last night around 6pm (after rinsing it out thoroughly as directed) and left it on. I tested the water around 3pm today and the test water was almost clear indicating no phosphates in the water. It was still a little blue but far from dark blue before the product was used. They say wait 4 days to test the water. I think tomorrow the water will be clear for analysis, indicating the absence of phosphates. I expected such a result based on the reviews I read and the video I saw, but what surprised me the most was that the algae disappeared! It only left stains on the leaves and a large stain on my 3 inch round/flat bubbler. I should have photographed the seaweed beforehand but trust me. Like the guy in the video, I had dying algae the next day. He just has nothing to eat to stay alive. and we probably leave the light in the tank longer than recommended. I'll let you know the final results in a few days, but so far everything is working great. I was expecting to have to take all the plants out of the tank for the typical bleach bath. (I gently soak them in virgin or safe to neutralize bleach before reusing). I never expected algae to just die out. So far I'm impressed. Also, I am sure that next pool season I will be using PhosFree in our sand filter to control the phosphate levels in the pool. But that's another review. There will be updates.
