I am a Pied Piper (3 rats) and I really liked this cage. It looked beautiful and the metal shelves were a really nice touch. That's why I chose that and not the one creature nation I was looking at. There was an error. The door is big, but it's still inconvenient to clean. I prefer one large Critter Nation regiment to two smaller regiments. Shelves will not fit in a regular sized igloo or rat house. So me and the rats use them for next to nothing. Wire floor is uncomfortable. It is difficult to clean. I tried covering it with plastic sheets to keep the rats off the wires but it didn't work. Then I tried to put a napkin in the middle so the poo could fall over the corners of the cage onto the aspen litter below. this failed because the urine pooled at the corners of the cage (where the bottom of the grid slides) and dried up there or dripped onto the floor, which was gross and generally bad for my rats' airways. My very frequent cleanings cannot be frequent enough. It would be better if there was a way to put litter next to the rats so they can suck up the urine. Be a secure cell base yourself. I bought a single nation with a stainless steel perch bowl for bedding and I think this will be a much more convenient, practical and hygienic solution. Minor inconveniences add up and make my daily cleaning experience pretty terrible.
