I bought this American Standard Colony Soft shower trim set (satin nickel) because I liked the shape of the handle more than the one that came with the others became other kits that fit the rough cleaning valve I was planning to use. I wasn't put off by the fact that the pickguard was plastic; but I figured if it's plastic, at least it can't rust or corrode, right? NOT RIGHT! One day, about 4 months after installing a new faucet and trim, I noticed green stains on the tile grout under the faucet. I was afraid of water leaking from behind the wall and corroding the brass inlet valve, so I removed the paneling. Luckily there was no leak, but the entire edge of the plastic trim at the point of contact with the wall turned green. I don't know what the plating is on the plastic but it must be a copper base. In the past we have had many American standard shower and bath faucets, all with metal fittings and no corrosion problems. Stick to the disguise set, all metal.
