So other reviewers have pointed out that basis weight is an issue. For a paring knife, that's no big deal. But with a 9-inch chef, or something even larger like a cleaver, there's no way to pull the knife out of the holder with one hand. You either have to press down on the base with something or hold the base with your other hand while you pull out the knife. However, there is a slightly non-intuitive alternative: instead of immediately pulling the knife, try twisting the knife in front of you to pull out the knife, which is much smaller on the knife blade than on the side. I've tried it, it works, even with my cleaver. A holder that requires you to pick up the knives won't work.
