Review on πŸ”§ Upgraded 16 Tooth CCW Steel Gear Replacement Compatible with Tecumseh Starters Motors 33432, 37052A, 32468, 33329 & More by Justin Coatsworth

Revainrating 4 out of 5

May not be an exact replacement, but might work.

My Tecumseh starter gear (37052A) has completely failed (no more teeth!). The price of this replacement unit was reasonable and could be returned if it didn't fit, so I ordered it. The delivery was quick and on time. The product was exactly as described. One review mentioned that the plastic cap protecting the recoil mechanism might not fit properly on the change wheel and I knew right away that this was true. I need to secure the lid somehow. The use of epoxy has been mentioned but I'm not sure how well it will hold up. Since the cap only covers the mechanism but doesn't affect its function, I decided to leave the part and "make it work"! Removing the damaged gear was a challenge. The snap ring at the end of the motor driveshaft will not just pop out. I'm sure the manufacturer never intended the starter as a do-it-yourself replacement. In the end I managed to remove the ring. After that, installing the replacement gear was easy. I re-greased the helical gears in the part that "throws" the starter gear into the flywheel before reassembly. After all the parts were assembled on the drive shaft, the circlip was "pressed" back into the groove on the shaft. The collar that holds the recoil spring, starter gear and screw mechanism part has a recessed channel that wraps around the retaining ring and prevents it from exiting the groove. I'm pretty sure it will stay. RE: Plastic cover, I'm hoping if I can completely degrease the mating surfaces on top of the gear and inside the cover the epoxy will hold it in place. It will be necessary to search. There are repair kits that will allow you to replace all of the components, but they cost almost twice as much. In my case, only the gear was damaged, so I didn't go that route. Fighting the mount would be the same. Since I have not yet reinstalled the starter on my snow blower, I cannot report anything on the durability of the replaced starter gear. The time will show. Based on the price of the replacement part, the quick shipping, and the fact that it 'fits' I find it reasonable value for money and give it 5 STARS. 4 STARS for easy installation (not the part's fault). The overall 4 STAR rating is due to the plastic cover not fitting properly, but if it were possible I would give it a 4.5 STAR. I recommend this piece if you are mechanically inclined. If not, take the car to a workshop πŸ˜‰.
