These are fine in the microwave if you are heating foods without tomato sauce/chile, or just for cereal and other non-heated foods. My husband heated chile in the microwave, and the bowl is permanently stained. I tried scrubbing with Barkeeper's Friend (nonabrasive cleanser), no luck. I bought them because they are advertised as "microwave safe," and I wanted unbreakable bowls that would not get as hot as stoneware does in the microwave. Looks like I need to go back to stoneware and oven mittens.
