so many of these retractable devices eventually fail - I got this one after a different steel-cabled retractable holder lost its spring retention. I selected this one based on a review that indicated that the spring was a little weak and the person opened it to add another wind of the spring. I figured, if it can be worked on in this way, it might be durable enough to last. I agree with that reviewer in that the spring tension is a little weak and would definitely need another turn if you're hanging several keys on this. The badge holder that came with it is very good. The moving parts make a bit of a squeaking sound, which tells me there's wear happening. I might give it a little graphite treatment later on.
