Decent quality, flexible installation

I have replaced an existing door knocker and in most cases have been disappointed by the lack of detailed information on these products. In other cases there was conflicting information on sizes, measurements etc. I was just trying to match the overall design and the exact distance between the existing mounting screw holes in my door but as there was so little product information I had to do it by trial and error. . To help others who are in the same situation I have documented the details of this product below and in some photos. This door knocker isn't as thick as the one I replaced, but it was still quite heavy and felt solid. . The processing was clean and as described. The supplied fittings can be adapted to different door thicknesses. The one I received was made in Taiwan. It should be noted that it was packaged in a clamshell plastic bag with sharp edges and required a utility knife or scissors to open. many years ago. They have since changed their standard unbranded model, so the only information I could report on the old hammer was that it was made in Spain. This item proved to be an exact replacement in terms of overall design, finish, length and width. It's perfect for those looking to replace one of their old non-branded "Things to Remember" door knockers. I would buy this product again. Technical information: The vertical distance between the mounting screws is exactly 4.25 inches on center. The hardware kit includes 2 screws, 2 screw extensions and 2 screw trim rings. The screws and extensions thread directly into the knocker, allowing you to use mounting screws without extensions if your door is thin enough. The screws themselves are 1.25 inches long. Extension, the combination of the extension and screw together has an overall length of 1.75" (minimum). When the screw is fully withdrawn from the extension (only two full turns inserted), the overall length is 2.5" (maximum). I appreciate that this hardware configuration supports doors from 1" to 2.25" thick..Installation Notes: 1. When installing this door knocker, make sure your door holes are perfectly even and straight.Otherwise, the holes will not line up so that the Bolts meet the hammer This is more important when using jambs as the bolt and jamb must meet somewhere in the middle of the hole and there is no play/manoeuvrability to properly line up existing holes in the door 2. The instructions on the back is inaccurate or incomplete in places. Specifically: A. The instructions say a 3/16" drill bit. If you only use screws and no extenders ments, that's fine. However, if you are using extension cords, a 1/4" bit is required. The extensions will not fit through the 3/16" hole. The instructions state it can be used on doors up to 2-1/8" thick. While not ideal, I'd say you can probably increase the thickness to 2-1/4 inches. Due to the difference between the screw length and the minimum combined screw and extension length, there is a dead zone for 1-1/8" to 1-1/2" thick doors where the screw itself is too short, but with the extension too long. TIP: The instructions say you can trim the screw to a shorter length so you can adjust the dead space or even use a door thinner than 1 inch if needed. If you choose to do this, I highly recommend threading the nut all the way onto the bolt, then carefully trimming the bolt to the correct length, and then removing the nut. Cutting the screw invariably damages the threads on the end and prevents the threads from remaining properly threaded. .By removing the previously applied nut after thread cutting, it straightens the thread at the top of the screw and enables easy screwing into the intended hole. Unfortunately, I could not determine the diameter and thread pitch of the screws supplied. I hope these details help you decide if this product is right for your application.
