A must for F150 Ecoboost owners

I tow a lot in hot weather and up steep hills. The F150 Ecoboost is a surprisingly powerful tractor, but it gets very hot. I've tried many upgrades (intercooler, radiator, gearbox, tunes etc) and as to why they all seemed to help very little, it was only after installing an external oil cooler that I saw significant improvement. Apparently the engine oil gets very hot from the turbo and since the engine oil is being cooled by the engine coolant it has essentially heated it up as well. So adding an external oil cooler also resulted in a reduction in engine coolant. A Mishimoto cooler paired with an external oil cooler transformed my truck. Note - do not start tuning (even with tuning in tow), your main goal is to bring the temperature down. More boost means more heat no matter what the tuners are trying to sell you. A pure trance tune is fine, but if you want to stay as cool as possible you don't need engine tweaks that fire the turbos earlier or with higher PSI. The way to a cold engine is to increase the thermal output. The bottom thermostat doesn't add heat capacity either.

Pros
  • Engine cooling and air conditioning
Cons
  • Reliability
