Years of use and use of several different knife blocks makes it easier to tell what is well made and what is not. Sometimes companies reduce the cost of the block itself, or more often the knives. This block didn't come cheap either. The block itself is made of heavy, well-constructed wood. I struggled a bit to even get it out of the box, it was so solid and I really wasn't expecting it. Blocks of quality knives can sometimes run into the hundreds, so anything under $100 would probably be decent, but probably not fantastic, right? Not right. The wood is smooth and very well finished. Texture and color will easily fit into any interior. We have a bit of a rustic/farm theme for our kitchen so it goes well with it. Smooth silver for knife handles also looks good on the block. It all goes well together. The little non-slip feet on the block are probably entirely unnecessary given its weight, but work well to prevent your table from chafing when you need to move it. The knives themselves are very good. They are light which helps with cutting but not too heavy to be ergonomic. I didn't spend much time cutting them to test them, but my hands didn't feel tired at all from what I was doing. The blades are also razor sharp, which is sometimes hard to find. Most knives are sharp enough, but they cut through a sheet of paper with ease. They cut the tomato like it was nothing. A bread knife is also perfect, it easily cuts a piece of French bread. One small thing I want to mention is that they are all metal. like a thing. That means the pen itself is pure metal, so I wouldn't pick it up if your hands are wet. The texture on the handles helps some, but that's something to keep in mind. In general it is worth the money. Even compared to some of the bigger brands and companies, this set definitely has its place among them. You would not be disappointed.
