I love this little thing. I recently got myself a handheld yarn winder because it's more convenient and quicker than winding balls of yarn by hand, but I didn't like how the center pull cakes start to flop. It is an ideal tool for pulling yarn outside. Cake. As long as you just let the yarn feed in as you work, rather than pulling on the length, I haven't had too many issues with yarn snagging and wrapping around the bottom. I simply take off the upper part and pull the coiled thread from the axle. Keep in mind that I knit/crochet slowly so people might have more trouble. This thing is pretty light, so I usually hold one of those unruly can openers underneath to keep it in place.
