Review on ๐ŸŒก๏ธ Enhanced UEi Test Instruments 550B Digital Portable Thermometer by Josh Chenier

Appearances can be deceiving

I bought two of these testers and my first impression was not very good. The first tester I opened turned on immediately, the second didn't. So I had to go immediately and track down the battery. The AB13 type battery is not quite common in battery packs so the ride was fun. This is the only time I'm grateful for my smartphone, so I could tell the AB13 is the same as the LR44. The next nice thing was replacing the battery. As I wrestled with the case, which broke upon removal, I found a very cheap looking piece of plastic that had to be cut in half to gain access to the battery. It made me think of one of those trinkets you get from gumball machines. The inside wasn't impressive at all: two tiny wires were soldered to the circuit board, which abuts but isn't attached to this insulated sleeve that descends into the tube. The battery is caged, making it difficult to replace. However, I took the battery out, put it back in, put all the parts together and charged it again. I placed both thermometers in a pot of boiling water to test their accuracy. One registered 211.1 and the other 211.2 so they seem to work despite the cheap design. I'll try to get twenty bucks worth of them out of them instead of bothering with returning them.
