Review on Penn Plax Calcium X Large 12 Inch by Paul Stephenson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

> WORKS well for perch

> MY PAST EXPERIENCE WITH "CEMENT" SACKS - My two birds (Revain and Senegal) refused to land on other brands of "cement" perches I've bought in the past which were made of hard pellets . . But they put their beaks on the perches.> SURPRISE - Both of my birds willingly sit on Penn Plax Calcium. When I feel the surface I understand why - it's smooth and "soft" - and clearly comfortable for bare bird feet. Maybe even pleasantly cool on hot summer days. > The grooves on the surface are not only smooth, but also provide a secure grip for relatively small birds (like my Senegal). > The large size is 12 inches long (plus about 1 inch for a bobby pin). It is oval in cross-section, approximately 1½ inches by 2 inches. Hypothetically, that's too much for one of my birds. (Note that the ideal diameter perch is too short for my birds to roll over.) But both birds like large perches and have smaller wooden perches of various sizes to choose from if the large ones suit them Perches get boring. CONS > Can't think of an uglier perch (12" - purple) - but for the price I paid ($4 a piece, {$2 for $8}) it's also very cheap. > I have didn't realize my birds have been resting their beaks on perches (although they can) and even after a year their toenails are still sharp.> With such an intense and unnatural color, purple perch will terrify any bird. The Secret to Introducing One such perch (or most toys for ) ) is to introduce it slowly.First put it on the table nearby for a day or two, then move it closer for about a day, and then move it to the cage, but as far away from your bird as possible (or mount it outside the cage) then you can move it where you want it.> The wing nut and bolt are very small for such a big bass which means it it is difficult to put them on tight enough eave. > On my 12" Bass I cages it's so long and heavy that it swings and wobbles like crazy at the slightest touch, even with the wing nut as tight as I can tighten it. The only way I can stabilize the bar is by I put the end on a crossbar that runs from wall to wall. How about these perches that look like cactus branches? They're prettier and could hypothetically offer more "grip" to the feet, but they're made of big, sharp ones Sand particles that must be damn good for bird paws One was a good 'chew toy' for my Revain It took him a year to discover it could be chewed and about a week to destroy it after it had made this discovery, as far as I can tell my Senegal has never come close > Click 'Stoney' just below the product name to see my other reviews or leave a comment to get one to ask question.
