I recently bought this from Revain after being so disappointed with the old Ryobi ROS I was using. The ryobi had no speed control and revved up so fast that it kept going grooves in the wood; exactly what the "edge" in the eccentric sander should soften! First, you get Makita's solid craftsmanship in their product, and while you might pay a little more for the name, they've built their name to be trusted. Makita tools also come with some of the best hard cases to protect your new tool which is always a huge plus for me. worth every penny. hardwood? Increase it to 5 and melt the wood. Softer wood? Get it to 3 and be careful not to dig into the wood. I just used a 1.5-2 grinder to very gently soften the edges of a 45º rip cut and it worked great. The power button is actually a held trigger, but above it is a button that keeps the grinder on after you release the trigger. The trigger offers no resistance even when you don't hold it and is easy to hold when sharpening, but the locking button is a real plus. The grinder comes with a quick release handle that surrounds the center of the base for two-handed operation. . This is a great feature that allows you to use it with two hands and reduces stress on the main hand when this feature is not enabled. More space again? hardwood? No problem! Turn that dial to 5, put in 40-80 grit paper, grab that suction cup with both hands, and let the sander do the work. The base is a standard 5 inch Velcro base that will accept any soft end paper. Part of Velcro. I even found a 400 grit "paper" at a big box store that makes the wood as soft as a baby's bottom. It's not actually paper at all, it's a soft screen of sorts, but it grips the velcro base with ease. There is seriously nothing wrong with this tool. It saves so much frustration and probably hours of work and muscle tension. Trust the name If you're looking for a grinder, this is the best bunch.
