My '05 Impreza had a 96-06 riveted joint, but this bolted joint worked. Some information online says they are interchangeable, but the bushing and bolt that connects to the shift fork is different than this bolted connection. I machined a new bushing (40mm x 14mm x 8.2mm) for this and used an 8mm bolt and it works perfectly. You can also purchase a spacer and bolt from Subaru. I didn't have to remove any brackets or exhaust. Saturate the pin and screws with PB Blast. Move the shifter back to remove the universal head bolt and extension, then move into 5th gear to remove the roll pin.
