Review on Belkin F4U110Bt Thunderbolt Upstream Transfer and Charging for 3840X2160 by David Riley

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Decent dock in my review

I got this from work for my wife to use with her Dell XPS 15 laptop. It works as expected - connects to an external monitor, ethernet and audio out. It is correctly identified as a Thunderbolt device. Although the XPS draws over 60W, powering it from a separate 87W power supply works just fine. My wife isn't a power user, so her computer activity probably won't exceed the 60W limit. I have two minor complaints about this: 1. The permanently attached Thunderbolt cable is quite short. It's fine for use on the go or for temporary docking, but leaving it on your desk and plugging in your laptop as needed makes for a sloppy setup. The USB input is on the side - it should be on the back. Your power supply may be located at the back of your computer, making cable management unsightly and a bit difficult. I know space was limited in this form factor, but this thing is a similar size to the Intel NUC, which is a full computer and can have all of its ports on the back. All in all, this fits the bill for a 'dock on the go' type solution. But if you're going to leave it in place and plug in a laptop if needed, I'd look elsewhere.
