Review on X Sense Battery Operated Photoelectric Compliant SD06 by Tim Hollins

I bought these for the check/reset button design and 10 year battery life. Most detectors are difficult to test or mute without standing on a chair or ladder. This one has a big button on the front so you can easily press it with a broom. It's a great feature and a well thought out design. Installation may be more difficult than it should be when replacing an existing wired detector as the panel is not compatible with back boxes. While this detector does not require a recessed box, replacing the one provided will not allow you to take advantage of the existing hardware and fitting screws around the existing box can be problematic. I have 3 of these and 2 hang from only 2 of the 3 mounting screws due to the hole pattern and the shape of the electrical box underneath. It will work, but the bottom plate made the job difficult. Not a show stopper, but loses two "Ease of Installation" stars. bottom line. I need another detector and I will buy another one. Just right for that reset button :)
