I bought this along with the PlayStation Camera which is needed to use PS VR because I just don't like the idea of a camera connected to a device with internet access streamed into my living room 24/7, even though it's off and inactive most of the time. It really should have been part of the camera design because it just makes sense and I suspect because they don't want to inspire confidence in the security of their devices that the camera isn't shipped that way. Darken your lenses. The quality is superb, especially for the price, which is extremely affordable at a fraction of the cost of a PS VR setup (hardware, system, games, etc.). It integrates nicely with the camera itself as if it were part of the design, and doesn't have the look and feel of a third-party add-on, and they haven't compromised on quality - felt pads between under the shutter that go in between and the camera lenses, which you can't see in the main image, are a nice touch, and many companies that cut corners would omit such details to save pennies -- it's one of the reasons I'm taking my time to writing this review, which I rarely do. Am I paranoid that the government or some second rate hacker is using my PS camera to spy on me? Of course not. But having that extra layer of security makes sense. The firmware and software that interacts with the camera SHOULD prevent it from being used for unauthorized purposes and I'm sure they do just that 99.99% of the time. However, software is written by people who can be prone to bugs, and firmware/software updates are released fairly regularly. I'd rather not leave everything to chance when there's an inexpensive alternative. The chances that someone would want to take over my PS camera remotely, specifically to watch me, is practically nil. The chance of an oversight when coding/testing a new unwanted "functionโ associated with the camera, leading to its unintentional activation is much higher. What some people consider common sense may be seen as paranoia by others and vice versa. but as far as I'm concerned, the price of this subject sufficiently places it in the common sense category. And it looks so much better than pulling a black sock over the PS camera when not in use.
