Review on Bosch HS1936 Chisel SDS Max Hammer by Andrew Walton

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Excellent performance over life but dulls quickly

I've had the pleasure of breaking tile floors, concrete and cement steps, sidewalks and slabs with my SDS Max and a light jackhammer during the last month. Unlike other Bosch R-Tec bits I've tried, this one works much better than its Monkey King counterpart I've reviewed previously. I was able to punch out 7 "holes" much faster than the Monkey King and Bosch bits. There was a noticeable reduction in vibration and it was a pleasure to work with. I suspect its performance is down to the design, which appears to be better at extracting dirt and fine dust from holes. However, I ended up actually getting more out of Monkey King because the metal feels harder and it stays sharp longer. The self-sharpening feature on these Bosch R-Tec's is disappointing because not only do they not stay sharp, they dull almost mushroom-like. The curved design makes it more difficult to resharpen a grinding wheel compared to a regular chisel when trying to create or maintain the original shape. Until the tip dulled and performance dropped significantly, this was the best chisel of the 3 chisels I've used. .

Pros
  • Provides 100 hours of continuous work time
Cons
  • Not as thick as other jackhammers
