Review on πŸ’ͺ Ingersoll Rand Air Hammer 114GQC: Powerful Pneumatic Tool for Efficient Job Performance by Dale Rylander

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Works well initially but doesn't last long. Trigger Design Error

This is an update of my previous 1 star review, I have now upgraded it to 3 stars. First off, I bought this jackhammer for use on a brick chimney demolition project. There are 3 things I want to improve. 1. The rubber grip is useless. In the first half hour of use it became apparent that it interferes more than it helps, it just twists around the grip and interferes with the trigger movement. I removed it and used a glove (the handle gets cold during use like many air tools). The quick release hammer attachment isn't the slickest thing I've used. He tends not to let go.3. The biggest problem is the 3 o-rings on the internal trigger pin, which wear out quickly. Just a few hours into my project, I noticed that the trigger would not fire, even with frequent lubrication. (The trigger is in the "on" position and the gun fires without being able to stop it.) Attempting to clean the gun with an air tool solvent cleaner didn't work, and I had an air hammer coming off the air hose had to be separated to prevent rattling. This resulted in my 1 star rating. I decided to take it apart and see what's going on. That's when I discovered the O-ring problem mentioned above; All the o-rings on the trigger pin were scratched on one side and came loose with small pieces of rubber hanging down (the side closest to the power regulator). Because of the small hanging parts, the trigger did not work. Removing it with tweezers made the weapon fully functional again. After another hour of use, I took it apart again and noticed further deterioration of the o-rings. Obviously they won't last long, so I tried ordering genuine Ingersoll-Rand O-rings (P/N 114G-168) online. Unfortunately, all the sellers have ridiculous prices ($6 cost + $20 shipping and handling for three tiny o-rings? Give me a break!). I measured the o-rings and they measure 5mm x 2mm x 1.5mm - size not included. in any conventional O-ring kit. But there are sellers who sell bags of this size at a reasonable price, e.g. B. $5 with free shipping for a bag of 50 here at Revain. So I will try to order a package and restore the gun. I will report the results. It's not difficult to pull the trigger pin out to get at the o-rings (you just need to remove the air chuck inlet sleeve and the trigger pin can be removed with needle nose pliers - be careful, the inlet sleeve is spring loaded, don't let the debris out don't fly off the machine inside like I did!) . However, keep in mind that all these problems only appeared after about 5 hours of using the gun. Not a very well made tool.
