Review on ☕ Tealyra - easyTEA - Large Capacity Tea Infuser Ball - Mesh Strainer for Steeping Loose Leaf Tea and Herbs in Teapots, Mugs, and Cups by Kim Flores

Holds up to 4 tablespoons (23g/0.81oz) of tea - Lid locking mechanism explained

This review is for size 20017, ASIN B00OGJMK9U. See photos. I bought two of these to help make kombucha. I brew up to 1.5 gallons of tea at a time so I needed large strainers. I can buy a big filter: FORLIFE Capsule Infuser. The reason I didn't do this was because at the time a Tealyra strainer was about half the price of a FORLIFE strainer and I wasn't sure that FORLIFE would last as much as two Tealyra strainers. I'm writing this review to answer some questions I had. I've been looking for capacity and design for now, but haven't found any answers. CAPACITY ---- Tried to set 4 Tbps. (23 g or 0.81 oz) of loose English breakfast tea filling it to a depth of 1.4 inches leaving a 1.1 inch gap to the brim (dry). After expansion, the tea leaves were tightly packed in a strainer, but I think they brewed normally. I spent about a minute soaking and lifting the strainer in the teapot to rinse the tea leaves before removing it, and with each soak it filled with water and drained fairly well again. See my photos as 4 Tbps. Tea looks before and after puffing, and after "shaking" the strainer with a chain for a while to use gravity to pull out the remaining water and squeeze the leaves a little. I also show the tea cake which I threw away before and after breaking it so you can see how the tea leaves were packed. When I touched the top of the cake it broke cleanly into the four quadrants you see in the last photo. I've added pictures of 2 and 3 tablespoons. Tee so you can see how those amounts fit in. 4 tbsp that's probably too much for this filter. ------- The lid of this filter is held very securely by two small handles that face each other on the inside of the rim and fit into two channels pressed into the rim of the filter (see photo). The channels have dimples on the ends that help the handles snap into place. To put the cover on, you need to line up the knobs with the entry points of the channels, push them in, and then twist until the knobs reach the ends of the channels. The lid is so secure that it is sometimes difficult to remove and the tea will not leak. POSSIBLE INDICATIONS OF OXIDATION --------------------------------------------------------- After single use I noticed tiny, very light spots on the underside of the lid that appear to be the beginning of oxidation. Scrubbing will not remove them. I'll update this review if they end up getting rusty. UPDATE 9/25/2021: More than three and a half years later and no rust.
