I bought this Toshiba Gigabeat for a trip 2 years ago and wanted to upgrade my $50 Sandisk player which is basic but has always worked. I went for it despite people complaining that they used the Gigabeat while running and the momentum of shaking completely ruined the player. Every time I've used the Gigabeat I've had major issues and been careful with it. It has a soft touch, but it just keeps swiping up and down without pausing in between. I can't access menus, play songs, or do anything else. I try to turn it off and it doesn't even do it. I had to wait for the battery to die for it to turn off. I have not yet used the stand to rip the CD directly into the player. At first I had problems with Windows Media Player for syncing songs, so I broke down and started using Gigabeat Room. It was fine until my computer stopped recognizing the device and tried to reinstall it. Even now my computer doesn't recognize the device and the installation CD doesn't work when I use it. I repeatedly had a problem turning on the player and it restarted without my intervention. I had to re-sync all my songs and start over. At one point I tried deleting the songs and pictures and it changed the names of the remaining files to all deleted files so I don't really know what's playing until I select that. A lot of them just say "File not found - Error" and I'm back to square one anyway. There are still many problems with it, but please don't waste your money. I've run out of $150 and I'm still using a basic MP3 player - the same as before, only poorer and more frustrated.
