The electric pepper grinder is a big disappointment

I'm the chef in the family and I got tired of stopping to wash my hands every time I wanted to spice up something I was cooking. It's time to get some electric salt and pepper grinders so I can season food with one hand. I did a lot of research to find the cheapest brand and finally settled on COLE & MASON Richmond Electric Salt and Pepper Mills. I took delivery and eagerly began using it to make dinner that night. The salt grinder worked great, but the pepper grinder didn't respond well to my attempts to adjust the grind size. However, I appreciate the convenience and ability to salt and pepper foods very evenly compared to spinning a manual pepper grinder or holding a pinch of salt over your food and sprinkling it on. Unfortunately, the mill soon began to work sluggishly (the batteries were new) and eventually stopped working altogether. I called Revain but was told I would need to deal with the manufacturer. The lady from COLE & MASON was very nice but I had to send back a non working pepper grinder etc. After a lot of effort and inconvenience, I received my new pepper mill. It worked right away, but very slowly --- it doesn't grind/throw nearly as much pepper as my hand grinder does in the same amount of time, so it takes forever to grind as much as possible with a few turns of the hand grinder; Instead of going over a steak or piece of salmon multiple times, I have to hold the grinder over the food and move it very slowly across the surface. That's very disappointing; For $36 I expected much better functionality. I went back to a manual pepper mill. In comparison, a salt mill works great; I fill it with kosher salt and it produces a finer grain of salt very quickly and efficiently - a few quick strokes over meat, seafood, corn on the cob, popcorn or whatever and you're done. It works so well that I had to be careful not to oversalt the food. The search for a really good electric pepper grinder continues.
