Review on Inkbird Solid Temperature Controller with Thermostat Function by Travis Coffman

It works but the quality seems spotty

If you look at a site like Digi-Key you can find similar solid state relays in the $50 range. On Inkbird website (you can buy them directly there) inkbird.shop/products/ssr?variant=13851338047551 the price is $5.59 with free shipping! So you have to be wondering where they cut corners to sell them for 1/10th the price of a "standard" SSR. The unit I bought seems to work fine, although I've only tested it with a 250w load so far, around 2 amps. . At that level, the voltage drop was 0.98VAC, so it stayed pretty cool (it's attached to a heatsink). I'll use it to power the oven, 15 amps or so, then we'll see how it holds up. Build quality is so-so. The RTV leaks in places, the connectors are uneven (some higher than others) and there is corrosion on the connectors. The only functional issue I found is that the LED is very dim. At first I thought it doesn't work at all, but it hardly is. So I'm a bit nervous about plugging this into an outlet, but I'll make sure my project is properly secured so if I have an "accident" I don't burn the house down. Be careful with them, they're cheap.
