This filter uses black material, not OEM white filter material. This makes it more visible during the initial priming/cleaning, which can be a good thing. The filaments don't work well with the black Berkey filters, but fortunately, unlike the Berkey filters, they come out on their own. Some turned well, others needed more power than I wanted to turn. As long as the taste seems acceptable. There seems to be a slight difference in taste, but it's pretty minimal. How effective the filter is and how dangerous the substances it lets through are for you, I cannot say.
