The Kaboom toilet cleaning system resides in your tank and adds bleach to the water entering the bowl as it fills up. By not putting bleach in the tank (just the bowl), you protect the rinse details, and that's a benefit. The kit contains chlorine tablets, which have a noticeable odor. I use bromine tables which are cheaper and almost odorless and are commonly used in pool filters. Plastic pill containers and tubing have a limited lifespan due to exposure to bleach and the tubing nipple tends to break after several years of exposure. I just replaced all three Kaboom units in my bathrooms this year.
