I have a feeling you need it or there won't be a good landing zone.
Works on 2017 E-Class 300 and 43. It's not flush or firm but I haven't experienced any hesitation when lifting. I have a feeling you need it, otherwise there is no good landing zone for the jack. In the lower part of the product there are recesses in which the convex protrusions of the socket circle are located. This is my only complaint that it can be made out of an even tougher material to counter that.
