Addendum - after only 2 uses, about an hour each, the top plate has already started to peel and wear out (see photo). The rest of the stool was great but I expect it will become unusable in a few months but I'll try to update the result a bit. I spent a little more for it because I like the adjustable option. My son is growing fast and doesn't want to spend $40 a year on a new chair. Assembles easily and firmly. The only thing I noticed is that the build tab is a bit wonky for each section. I don't think it will stand up to repeated use (twisting to disassemble or repeated height changes) but if you only adjust it once or twice a year I think it will be fine.
