Review on Not Castle Land Tower Family by Damian Lousteau

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Well designed, fun and less likely to dominate a player

This has to be one of the best game boxes I've seen, as compact as you could wish for. All components fit in one side of a sturdy plastic case and the other side is a dice case (tray with baffles to "shake" the dice). No wasted space. My students in grades 3-6 love this game which requires them not only to think fast but also to plan ahead and organize their flashcards for easy analysis. When the dice are rolled, players must find a card that does not match any of the attributes: color, symbol, or background. The last player to place a card must return it to their hand. Any player who places a card that *matches* one or more dice must not only return the card to their hand, but must also draw an additional card. If a player only has matching cards, he does not have to play a card at all. If you play all your cards correctly, you win. In each round, the dealer acts as the referee. So even if you have a kid aiming to win every game, the other players will have a round where that dominant kid doesn't play. This gives younger children the opportunity to outperform older siblings. The only problem is that some find the template cube difficult to read. Distinguishing between a dotted face and a checkered face has proven difficult for some people, especially myopic gamers. and especially this middle-aged reviewer. 😉🙂
