update 04/15/2021 So I got the new R2 sharpener and it is flawless. None of the issues the first had which is why I am now rating it 4 stars minus one star due to the poor quality control of the first. My previous Hapstone V6 sharpener is one of the best sharpeners I have ever used. However, I wanted to try a rotating clamping system and not just a flat platform where I have to turn the knife over by hand, which is always a bit awkward. So I bought a Hapstone R2 Lite knife sharpener. I am very disappointed in the quality of this sharpener. The first problem was that one of the pivot bracket's stop bolts was screwed in at an angle rather than at a 90 degree angle. Annoying, but still works. The next problem was changing the angle as the knife rotated in the clamp. The angle has changed by 4 degrees. Also, the angle has changed by 1.6 degrees along the length of the knife. Then I noticed that the support post position was shifted 6 millimeters to the left. This means that the two mounting holes in the base were drilled off-centre, and upon closer inspection it turned out that the mounting holes were not in line, which probably also contributed to the change in angle along the length of the knife blade. as the built-in 15 degree tip of the clamp post is crooked. Well this might just be a bad block that slipped through quality control but I am returning this block as I am expecting a better one for $250. I was dying to try the rotating clamp system so I might try ordering another unit and if it's as well built as my Hapstone V6 sharpener I might update my review to reflect that. Very disappointed.
