Review on πŸ‘Ÿ Enhance Your Trail Running Experience with ALTRA Women's AL0A4VR7 Lone Peak 5 Trail Running Shoe by Seth Damain

Great trail running shoes (especially if you like Zero Drop)

I am a big fan of the Altra brand and am planning my 40th anniversary trip to Mount Whitney and decided to go with the slightly warmer one Trail Altra. Instead of my favorite, I'm going to King MT1.5 (this line is now unfortunately discontinued, but I digress). While reading about this 22-mile adventure, I made a few recommendations for the Lone Peak 5 - good reason to get some new shoes, right?! Well the local store didn't stock my size so I let the lady talk me into buying a pair of Hawks. A test run in it reminded me again why the Hoka isn't the right fit for this zero-drop runner. I usually wear sneakers and other Altras in size 6.5 and leisure shoes in size 6, so I ordered size 6.5 at first, but it was too big and wide for my foot. I quickly decided to try again and size 6 arrived with a 1 day supply! They're noticeably heavier than the Hoka Torrents, but that's because they have a stone top and an aggressive profile, so I expected that. They were just perfect during my 5 mile acclimatization run the day before at the start of the trail. As far as 22+ miles go I would say they were a win there too. I felt safe on all types of off-road hikes and as I ran the top for that mile to the portal they didn't save me from the loose gravel coming down on one of the last of the dreaded 97/99 switches, but it was out - because of incorrect foot position/weight, not because of the shoes. I'd say I could walk barefoot or in combat boots at mile 19.5 (I did that too) and I wouldn't notice a difference as my day is almost over by that point...the next big birthday is where something, for example in Italy or Spain.

Pros
  • Shoes
Cons
  • So far so good
