Review on Danner Manufacturing, Inc. EZ Clean External 55 Gallon Filter: Supreme Water Change Siphon, Gravel Cleaner, Dual Cartridges (Fresh & Salt Water), Black 01105 by Janet Hill

Good marketing, not a good product when it needs cleaning.

After watching the instruction videos I thought this filter was worth buying. I was great for water changes with its direct tank to bucket system. The built-in wafer vacuum system wasn't that good. The nozzle collected dirt well, but only large particles remained in the "trap”. The fine sludge was returned directly to the tank. Due to the intensive water flow through the filter, the supplied material quickly became clogged and had to be cleaned. I bought a pre-filter and that solved the problem. A few days ago I noticed that the once silent filter is now making a humming noise (water is still flowing). I felt the impeller motor and it was quite hot. I took the tank filter (I forgot to mention it's 20 gallons long) and took it apart to clean it. I didn't find it too dirty (mostly the usual presence of seaweed). After cleaning everything of dirt and rinsing all parts (with well water, without chlorine), I reassembled the filter and put it back in the tank. After filling the reservoir (to prime the pump), I reached behind my back to grab the power cord. it was saturated with water flowing out of the impeller motor (O-ring not closing properly). As I quickly removed the entire filter, I noticed quite a bit of water on the floor behind the oak tank stand, up under the wall plinth, and actually on the floor in front of the tank stand where the tank was overflowing. when trying to throw everything (filter and connected pre-filter and pipe) into a bucket. The Danner filter is now in the Revain box in the basement. The filter was purchased on May 30 of this year. Looks like I'm done with hanging filters.
