I took a chance on buying these to replace my older and cheaper Shimano rear brakes which were slow to slow me down as some of the plastic components were cracked. There were no instructions for them, but I found out. They are very well made and durable. I had to install a new, longer cable, but it turned out to be easy. They are perfect for shoe brakes and completed the conversion of my mountain bike from a mech, as I used to have trouble stopping, to now locking rear brakes. The price is ridiculously cheap for a full set of brakes, especially mountain bike parts. If you need new brakes but don't want to spend $100 on disc brakes, get them.
