Made in France. Whether it's original or not, I don't know. The smell is not sharp, it smells a little like paint. A little leaked through the lid. The seams seem to be even. I decided to tighten the lid to the end, but it cranked. Whether it should be or not, I don't know. Unfortunately, I threw out the old canister and have nothing to compare with.
