Review on Thermoelectric Peltier Semiconductor Refrigeration Cooling by Matt Barsa

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Works well but cheap for some reason

First, information not included in the list: 1. Uses 4 TEC1-12705 Peltier modules. 2. The fans on the hot side are MB Ambeyond brand, model number AV-F9025MS (12 VDC brushless and 1200 rpm / 38.4 cfm I believe). While this product works reasonably well and is mostly assembled as I would expect, there are definitely some oddities. First, heat dissipation on the hot side is largely inadequate if you're looking to achieve a decent temperature differential that's anywhere near what you should be able to achieve. Second, the thermal paste is applied pretty sloppily, so I had multiple points next to the modules connecting hot and cold heatsinks. And although every manufacturer does that more often. My least favorite are the massive metal screws that connect the two heatsinks.8 Relatively large pieces of metal between the heatsinks that serve opposite purposes. Overall I think it's a good deal but I've started taking it apart and will be replacing all thermal paste, lapping all heatsinks and replacing all terminal screws with nylon screws to minimize thermal bridges. But just to see how well I can pull it off I may have to forego hot side rinse consumables though to get more or at least give them some bigger CFM fans. Update: Couldn't get much better performance out of this setup so I decided to order 4 closed loop liquid coolers for it and replace the 4 modules 12705 with 12706 modules. Enough ice should form on the plate with this setup .
