I've had a lot of tom-toms over the past 10 years. When it became necessary to replace my old GoLive, I decided to purchase the then newest Go620. I've been using it almost every day for 3 months now. I started using it with my old 5" GoLive as many of the previously simple search, history and redirect functions are now too complex for the GO620. The new device offers web searches and can obviously do a lot of things, but during a typical day most of it goes unused as it takes too much concentration and pressure to actually use it. If I need serious details I can stop and use your smartphone, to eventually find a business address, etc. Although the new screen is larger than my old device, the useful information you need to know at a glance is actually printed smaller than on the old smaller screen. Although I have these set to the highest resolution. I've found that it now takes me a microsecond longer to focus on the smaller numbers and letters that fill the screen when I switch my gaze from the freeway in front of me to the device. They've also changed the 3D Driving View a bit, so it's actually a bit more difficult to determine, for example, your next turn or lane. While the screen is larger, the presentation of what you need to know is smaller in many ways. They've also changed the way the distance to your next turn is displayed. They used to be nice, big, legible "1.5 miles"; it is now "1 1/2 or 1 1/4 miles". Where 1/2 or 1/4 is pretty small if you take a quick look while driving at 65 mph. Entering a new destination is now a bit more cumbersome. It used to only suggest cities in the state you're currently in or the state you last searched for. Now it gives you suggestions for every city in the country with that name. For example, you must type "Alexandria v" before you get a simple option to click on Alexandria, Virginia. Otherwise, a dozen other Alexandrias will appear in the menu, and you have to scroll down the page forever. Even though he knows you are in Alexandria, Virginia and have just visited three other addresses in that city. Every time you start walking into this city, you are assumed to be in Alabama. (in alphabetic order). Redirecting is also a bit more tedious. Previously, you could click on a specific road, highway, or section of highway to avoid it. Now he wants you to avoid the curve. I've tried to sort it out but it was still nothing but a disappointment. So I just don't use it. Finally, always use the old one for this function. The new device is good at predicting traffic delays. But often it shows that the current delay is 2 minutes 50 seconds, although it is clear that the total delay to the destination is 20 minutes or more (e.g.). Apparently it only shows you the current traffic jam you are stuck in. Not 2 or 3 plugs that are outside of the current plug. Something useless. This device also allows you to update it over Wi-Fi. Something I found handy. However, today they have implemented a new map update with what is usually a minor update to the traffic camera. Map update weighs 6 GB! It is connected to my smartphone to enable traffic on the go. So if I click refresh, like I do every few weeks with no problem, it will use ALL my data for the month. When the data was exhausted, the update failed. Now there is no map. I basically bricked it up until I get to my home wifi. Keep it up, Tomtam. Traffic aside, my old block is much more useful in general. Maybe they will do some updates to make the new one better. Until they appear, I would refrain from doing so. Or spend a little less money for a simpler block. This one is definitely not worth the premium. In fact, bricked up until I could reach my home WiFi. Keep it up, Tomtam.
