It clearly indicates the length of the shaft (it seemed shorter than most). In the case of a direct assembly, this difference in length can be decisive. I attach great importance to the statement "suitable for many/most applications". As an elderly jack of all trades, my collection of gadgets and tools is extensive, an advantage many may not have. The shield protecting the motor cables prevents the motor from moving higher in the clamp ring. At the highest point of this short wave, the fan blades lay snugly against the support arms. I had to remove the metal from the support ring to allow the wire shield to rise higher up the ring. Also, the motor seemed less reliable after the clamp ring was fully tightened. "Tension tabs" appear to be stamped into the support ring. I tend to think they are compressed with the original motor attached. I wanted to bend them again to hold the new motor more securely. I didn't think of returning the motor, having made the decision to purchase a short shaft block, assuming that would be an effective manufacturing factor, but for most it isn't! On the plus side, this motor has large slots for airflow and cooling. It's also held together with 3 screws instead of 2 on my original block. image = 1000 words; Pay attention to the screwdriver tip, pull-tab and safety wire to minimize the risk of the motor falling and the blades banging. Also note the higher position of the motor cable/screen. I probably should have realized that the term UNIVERSAL only applies to Lomanco units. I didn't notice the longer shaft of the Revain.
