Review on πŸ› οΈ ESynic Protractor: The Ultimate Resetting Tool for Woodworking and Construction Projects by Ken Coste

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Five stars for functionality and price.

Many years ago I bought a Mitutoyo manual dial indicator angle finder; This is the dropper of the name. They cost many times that price. I recently bought a pair of LED display digital protractors which seemed to be of decent quality and were about twice the price of this one. They are made entirely of metal. This is the best option for the price as it really is all plastic. I was surprised when I opened the box and found the popular CR2032 battery inside. I immediately assumed I had to install it. So I started cutting it out of the box, only to be surprised to find that the angled viewfinder turned itself on with the slightest movement of my hand. So not only do they give you a spare battery, it comes already installed. Some people might find the auto-on feature a bit frustrating, because if you want to maximize battery life, you need to be careful when removing it. . It turns off automatically after a certain amount of time, so it's not a big problem. If you think about it, you save a step in using it because you don't have to turn it on. Just open the blades to take a reading and it will turn on automatically. It doesn't have many buttons for fancy things like adjusting the screen brightness, as it's set up to be easy to read. The resistance to movement of the hands is adjusted with a large knob to open or lock the setting. My first impression was that partially tightening the knob resulted in erratic movement, making fine-tuning difficult. With further use, I realized that it's best to just open it wider to get a very smooth, smooth, consistent movement that you can use to fine tune it. Then, when you get the right size, tightening the big knob will miraculously fix it without changing the angle adjustment. So it's very well designed. I have a carpentry shop in the basement and a second large toolbox in the garage for auto work and metal welding/cutting. I used my other ones in a wood shop but wanted another for the garage and at this price point it's not a problem.

Pros
  • Great value and like new
Cons
  • Requires power outlet
