Review on Jagwire Black Housing Liner Cables by Paul Wall

Revainrating 5 out of 5

This material is very useful for the home mechanic who has bikes with internal cable routing.

I bought this plastic cable sleeve which will probably be a lifetime supply because I have several bikes with internal cables and thought it might make my life easier if they were just to hand. It turns out to be incredibly helpful. If you need to replace a cable that runs through the frame without internal guides, you can slip part of it over the cable and route it up until it comes out the other side and tape both ends. snap onto the outside of the tube and pull the cable out with full confidence that the new cable will come back and follow the exact same route. Even if you don't currently have a cable but need a frame, I've found that it's much easier to put it in one hole and "tuck" it in until it pops out of the other hole than it is to plug it in with one do real brake or shift cable. It's stiffer and a little easier to manage, and less likely to curl up in a weird pocket in the frame. If you need to pull a piece of brake hose out of the frame for a redirect or replacement, you can tape the piece completely around and fish it out for stuffing and reverse the process later. In each of my internally routed frames, I have a plastic plug under the bottom bracket shell where the cable should exit the frame (seen from below), turn a corner and return to the frame on its way to my derailleur or rear derailleur. I don't like the idea of the cables under the bike being exposed to the weather or rubbing back and forth and slowly wearing down in the plastic channels. Instead, I use a short piece of this material (a few inches) that is draped over the cable and pressed into the plastic channel just to provide a smooth surface for the cable to rub against and to protect the frame's plastic insert from wear and tear protection. lots of cable jacket, but it doesn't cost much more than some of the very short lengths I've seen elsewhere on the web. I won't buy for a long time.
