The ball joint design allows for more joint directions but has the disadvantage that it is almost impossible to lock. The ball's smooth shape cannot be tightened with enough force to overcome the slippage when hitting bumps or vibration. Attempting to tighten the two finger nuts up and down resulted in a slight stripping of the threads as it was barely long enough to start with. Also, the device knocks on the mount, which is terribly annoying. If they insist on two ball joints, the balls must be knurled to prevent them from slipping when force is applied; The two plates connecting the ball joint should be heavier gauge steel and the threaded bolts should be 3/8 inch longer to avoid stripping and provide a mechanical advantage when locking the joint. Additionally, the tracking radar clip requires back pressure with a washer to eliminate vibration, similar to how a blendmount grips a detector. Until then, this item doesn't do much better than the $15 fakes.
