*************** Months after I received this silicone sponge I hid it in my kitchen drawer. Before I got tired of buying things and not using them, I decided to try this sponge again. I put a drop of dish soap in a large flat pan and about a teaspoon of water. Then I rubbed very quickly. Voila! Foam! I think I've tried in the past to use this sponge the same way I use a traditional sponge, by pressing it into the soap to try to soak up the solution to make the sponge lather. Of course you can't do that with this sponge. Instead, I had to add air to the soapy solution in one quick motion. I've since reproduced the foam on other surfaces - metal, silicone, even bamboo, with the same very fast foam movements. I am so thrilled that I am looking for another silicone sponge again because now I hope I never have to buy a disposable sponge again. Our family especially loves that we just need to wash these silicone sponges with some soap and hang dry to sanitize. They never smell and food doesn't get stuck in the tiny finger brushes. We've never used a hard, heavy-duty cleaning ring because the sponge doesn't give our hands enough leverage to make it worth it. But for an even cleaning on hard surfaces, a dab of soap, a bit of water, and quick motions seem to work well. We had to update our review because we were previously unfair by not understanding how to use these silicone sponges. ************* Like many others, we are looking for a hygienic and environmentally friendly replacement for dish sponges. But the reviews on these silicone sponges are pretty bad. People complain that the silicone doesn't hold soap and water, so the sponge doesn't wash dishes. What works for us is to apply dish soap to the dishes first and then use a silicone sponge to spread the soapy water over the dishes. The problem with this is that you waste a LOT more detergent. We use the same amount of soap that we used to wash a sink full of dishes to wash multiple dishes. We also tried this sponge wiping down a sink because others commented that the silicone sponge's grippy fingers are great for cleaning porcelain tile showers. However, we have not been able to clean non-porous hard surfaces. The sponge only pushes the water; it does not retain solutions sufficiently to spread over surfaces. And while the bristles can apply some pressure, it's not enough to get at most foods or stains (like coffee or tea) on countertops. This product is amazingly shiny and helps our kids wash their hands better. They love the feel of soft bristles, so wash your hands (again, LOTS of soap) for the recommended 20+ seconds. So, we keep a sponge ready for cleaning large ceramic or glassware (it perfectly mixes the soapy water in it). on large areas) and we will buy another one for our children's bathroom so that they can wash their hands better. However, we cannot recommend this silicone sponge for cleaning most plates (too much soap) or countertops. And yes, we tried and appreciated the hard built-in scrubber. Works for spot cleaning. Perhaps the manufacturer could upload some videos to Revain to teach the community HOW to use these silicone sponges effectively - at least for washing dishes. Until we learn how to do this, we will use traditional sponges that we simply need to disinfect frequently. :(
